GIVE THE GIFT OF HOPE – an exhibition by Connie Godwin, Margaret Hogan, Andrea Holliday, Wendy Howie, Mez Truskett and Ani Danielian. 3-9 November

 “Give the gift of hope”

OPENING NIGHT WEDNESDAY 5TH NOVEMBER – 6 PM.

Cheerfulness is an achievement, and hope is something to celebrate. Additionally, optimism is important because in so many difficult situations a successful outcome is determined by how much of it we bring to the task. The irony is, the more challenging our lives, the more a graceful depiction of a flower might move us. A beautiful painting can be all the more precious to us because we are so aware of how rarely life satisfies our desires. The tears — if they come — are in response not to how sad we are, but how pretty the art is. Art offers hope, and that is something we all need.

In this exhibition, six emerging artists come together to celebrate cheerfulness, hope and optimism.  The giving of hope is the best gift of all. Simply, art makes our lives better.

Artists are Connie Godwin, Margaret Hogan, Andrea Holliday, Wendy Howie, Mez Truskett and Ani Danielian.

Conceptual artists who have abandoned the traditional canvas, choosing instead a bespoke medium to challenge and expand the boundaries of painting. Their work offers a fresh perspective on the discipline, reimagining what a painted surface can be. Serious in craft but playfully irreverent in spirit, they don’t take art too seriously—only seriously enough to reinvent it. As a systematic subversive, they disrupt expectations with intention and clarity. Rather than serving a new dish, they introduce an entirely new cuisine to the art world.

A New Side View - Isabella and Daniel Wickham - TAP GallerSeal

My ‘Seal’ Painting was Inspired by a photograph I was drawn to from a calendar. I used the clear canvas to represent the crystal clear ocean waters and I used a solid base to create the look of a white sandy ocean floor for the happy seal to rest on.

Ocean

My Painting, ‘Ocean’ is one of my favourite pieces and my most detailed work yet. A girl laying off her board in the shallow blue.I wanted to paint different shades of blue for the background to represent the colours of a healthy reef, along with the sunshine shining directly on the girls right side. I wanted to replicate the feeling of comfort over the stunning clear waters of the great barrier’s reefs.

Fish outta water

My Painting ‘Fish outta water’ shows a young girl sitting on her longboard stuck in the breaks drifting deep, I wanted to represent the colours ascending from the shallows to the depths. I aimed to resemble the adrenaline of being stuck in a strong set of crashing waves from a Birds Eye view.

Their Brains

My ‘Their Brains’ Painting was my second Clear Canvas painting ever done, painted outside under the trees of my backyard, i experimented with a variety of funky colours, i wanted the wind blowing the painted circles in all different directions to create its own pattern.
