The Anthropocene Extinction Event: a group show about species extinction, advocating for environmental awareness and protection.
This exhibition explores the factors that are driving the sixth mass extinction, chiefly climate change.
If you live in an urban environment as most of us do, the climate crisis can seem distant and almost unreal.
Memories of the Black Summer bushfires that briefly shocked us into awareness, have faded as the covid pandemic has taken hold of our attention.
The experience of climate change is filtered through the media, turned into sound bites and flattened-out images of disasters happening in faraway places to other people.
Amid this general sense of dislocation, scientists and artists continue to unflinchingly examine the unfolding climate crisis and record what they see. However, art can touch us on a deeper level than facts and figures can, to shock us back into awareness of the real devastation of species and habitats being caused by climate change in Australia.
The Anthropocene Extinction Event, by turns heartrending and humorous, always uncomfortable, features the work of 13 emerging and established artists united by their passion for the natural world, that will challenge you to confront the toll that pollution and climate change is taking on our loved native animals and landscapes and take action to protect them.

Artists include Monika Scarrabelotti, Graeme Pauley, Alyx Guidi, Bron Price, Nienke Brand, Paul Venables, Vance Raeburn, Gilda Rizzo, Catherine Giles, Michael Teleshoff, Loretta Ryan-Krawczyk, and Brian McDonald.
Presented by the Garage Art Action Group and Extinction Rebellion.

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2022, Women on Boards will award first prize for The International Women’s Day ART PRIZE at TAP Gallery on Tuesday 8th March.
The International Womens Day Art Prize is now in its 13th year. Last year saw more than 150 entries in all media and the winner was selected by guest judges. Also included was a people’s choice award inviting the attending public to vote for their favourite work on the evening.
“We are passionate about the progression of women in all walks of life and it’s for this reason we have set up this annual prize” said Ruth Medd, Chair, Women on Boards.
Women on Boards is the leading advocate for improving gender diversity on Australian boards and work to improve women’s access to, and opportunities to be selected for, board positions in all sectors.
The prize has an open theme allowing female artists to freely express themselves in all mediums & genres.
Celebrating International Women’s Day with the launch of the “WOB International Women’s Art Prize” TAP Gallery is featuring a week of Women’s events. Stay tuned for more Women in film,music & much more. All of these events are open to the public and all are welcome.

Artist Bio
“There is truth, honesty and beauty in the imperfect.” – Liberté la Femme
Raw, unchoreographed, and uneditted. Improvised and immediate. These are words that describe the creative process and products of artist, Liberté la Femme. So much art today celebrates the popularity of high-realism and ultra-detailed, painstakingly executed art. Liberté explores the opposite through her creative process.
A multi-disciplinary artist creating works of painting, drawing, film and performance art, she studies concepts of ‘the emotional self’ through her creative explorations. Drawing upon the foundational theories of surrealism – automatism, hypnosis or trance, and the unconscious mind – Liberté’s works are immediate, fluid and dreamlike. But do not be fooled, they are not light-hearted dreams, instead often dark and raw exploring concepts from self-destruction, anxiety, and heartbreak through to the exposures of self-acceptance. Her imagery is laced with symbolism; every element being carefully considered prior to execution – colours, spaces, props, and lighting, all playing a significant role is communication and connection with the audience. The self-imposed rules that bound her practice – time limits, restricted technology or colour pallets, and lack of over-working a piece – brings into the work, particularly her paintings, a sense of unfiltered honesty and vulnerability.
“I want my works to create themselves. I strive to connect with the creative process itself, to embed myself within the artworks. I want to understand myself – through my art. To discover who I am, how I love, why I act the way I do. Through my practice, I want to transcend beyond being just an artist. I wish to become, as I create, a unity of The Artist, The Artwork, and The Artistic Process. That is my Holy Trinity. Through letting go, I become a conduit of creative energy. The film creates itself; the paint runs where it wills. Freedom.” – LLF.
In her exhibition “The Artist”, Liberté explores the emotions of lockdown and her experiences in isolation. A period of forced self-reflection, her time spent has resulted in a film series, photographic collages, and paintings that document the somewhat destructive reconnection of the conscious personality with the unconscious, creative self.
