Sydney Pride festival launches Pride Month Celebrations: Love, Respect, Empower!
The Sydney Pride Month 2025, taking place from June 1st to June 30th, will celebrate diversity, unity, and equality under the theme “Love, Respect,Empower.”
This vibrant month-long event will bring together the LGBTQIA+ community and allies to honour love in all its forms, encourage mutual respect, and empower individuals to embrace their authentic selves.
With a rich lineup of Theatre, art exhibitions, workshops, and performances, the festival aims to create a space of inclusion and joy. It serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made and the work that continues toward a more equitable and compassionate society.
The Sydney Pride Month also pays tribute to the trailblazers who paved the way for LGBTQIA+ rights and visibility. It honours the courageous activists of the first Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978, who marched for equality despite facing police brutality and discrimination. Their bravery marked the beginning of a movement that transformed Sydney into a symbol of pride and acceptance.
The festival also reflects on the global significance of the 1969 Stonewall Riots
in New York, a watershed moment in the fight for LGBTQIA+ liberation.
By remembering these pivotal events, Sydney Pride celebrates the progress made while recognizing the ongoing struggle for equality and justice.
Information about the Sydney Pride month and schedule of events will be
available mid May. Visit www.sydneypride.com and celebrate Love, Respect, Empower this Pride month.

THE DEMOCRATIC ARCHIBALD PRIZE
ALL WORKS GUARANTEED TO BE HUNG!!
Saturday 24th May</span > marks the 30th Anniversary of Australia’s 3rd largest Archibald Event – Real Refuses – where artists not selected for the ARCHIBALD, WYNNE, SULMAN Art Prizes exhibit their work at TAP Gallery in Surry Hills to win the popular “People’s Choice Award”, selected by the public on the night.
Real Refuses has become firmly established as part of the “Archibald Season”.
While it is an exhibition of rejected artwork, it is much more than that…
It is about giving a fair go to all the artists involved in Australia’s largest art events.
Not everyone can win an Archibald but here everyone can exhibit alongside their peers.
(You’ll find past winners of Australia’s biggest art prizes here as well!)
In the past an extraordinary range of subjects have been shown, from well known musicians, actors, politicians including the NSW Premier, Mayor of Willoughby, Anthony Mundeen, Tony Abbott, Leo Sawyer, the then Prime Minister John Howard, Madame Lash, Elizabeth Cummings, Professor Bruce James Brew, and Jaiwei, (a winner of the Sulman.)
We can’t wait to see the works not selected this year!
