Nudes on TAP showcases the work of photographers who are passionate about capturing the sensuality and beauty of the artistic nude. The exhibition is an invitation to photographers of all abilities to enter the photography exhibition that celebrates both classic and contemporary expressions of the naked human figure in stylish, exquisite compositions & interpretations.

Conditions of entry

Artists must deliver works by Wednesday 24th November between 12-6pm
Each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form and an entry fee of $25
The winners will be announced on Saturday 27th November between 5-7pm
There will be a judges choice & a peoples choice prize.
The exhibition will be on display untilSunday 5th December 12-6pm daily.
Artworks are to be picked up on the last day.
photographs must be mounted or framed
maximum size A2 42cmx60cm.
All mediums accepted (Paper, canvas, vinyl etc)

THE ANNUAL NUDES ON TAP

Hosted by Brokensha Boudoir and Lesley Dimmick

CONFIRMED JUDGE YVES HERNOT, RENOWNED PHOTOGRAPHER

Yves Hernot arrived in Sydney in 1975 after graduating from the National School of Fine Arts and Architecture of Paris.

On arrival Yves taught as an art teacher in Cranbrook school. Yves is also a painter and a photographer.

During his long career Yves Hernot was an auctioneer and worked as Federal Art expert. He was also curator of Qantas Airways art collections,

Yves worked on Australian TV as a reporter and journalist. Presently Yves works with Le Courrier Australien as the Art Columnist.

10 years ago Yves created ” les Prix Yves Hernot ” or ” Yes Hernot Awards ” in France and in Australia .

The prizes are awarded to encourage artists either painters or photographers who have shown merit , passion , talent and dedication.

And… There’s a Light On – Niki McDonald

And… There’s a Light On, an art exhibition, is a response to the Sydney Craft Week theme, Change Maker. Immersion in the gallery space will offer a sensory shift for the viewer. The space is compact, and the textile art is hung Salon style for limited visual resting places, artwork titles draw on song lyrics to evoke mood and past experience. The artwork is tactical, and touch is encouraged on some pieces, bowls of sweets are offered creating small dopamine hits. The artist’s intention is to provide a space for sensory immersion as an intermission from the unfolding world at large. Niki McDonald, Tapestry Girl, employs the half cross stitch traditionally used in needlepoint tapestry to find the balance between playfulness, industriousness and urban sass.

Anna Wheeler & Anastassia Balachova

Anna Wheeler graduated from the National Art School in the year 2000.She is a painter currently living in Darlinghurst who has had over 10 solo exhibitions since art school. She describes her painting as abstract figurative.She loves colour in her paintings and of course in her life!

Some of her favourite artists are Basquiat, Willem De Kooning, Chagall and Frida Kahlo. She says “I paint mainly from my imagination and my dreams of this wild world we live in! I let my brush do the talking.I use energetic brush strokes and wild colour.I like the paint thickly and richly layered and textured.

This current body of work has a number of influences such as Feminism, the Australian bushfires of 2020 and of course the current global pandemic Corona Virus.Her painting made this year “Pink Sphinx in Corona Times” is a dreamlike image of how suddenly the Corona Virus was “everywhere,surrounding all of us.The Sphinx is surrounded by Corona but yet she remains strong and beautiful.It is a painting saying there is hope.We will get through this..”

Anna has been a finalist in many group art prizes such as the Brett Whiteley Travelling Scholarship,Mosman Art Prize,Lloyd Rees Art Prize and Waverly Art Prize.She is in Australian collections aswell as international collections such as France,England,China and Thailand.

Anna was exhibited in the International Women’s Day Prize at TAP GALLERY twice. She received 2nd prize one year and this year received 1st prize for the People’s Choice Award.

Anastassia Balachova also studied at National Art School, has had many solo exhibitions and has been prolific in her work. More to come about Anastassia.

WOMEN IN TUBS AND WASH BASKETS – Vee Malnar 21st Sept – 1st Oct Opening Night Tuesday 22 Sept 6-9pm Artist’s Talk and music Sunday 27 Sept 4-7pm

Vee is a multi-media artist, playwright, painter, and performer. Her resume includes volumes of work as a visual artist, singer-songwriter and short film maker. Her plays have been performed in Short and Sweet Sydney, and her music profiles Ana Key and the Underdogs (Squeeze Records) and Matriarch. She is a graduate of Wollongong University’s Creative Arts Course and since 1987 has sold a number of works through solo and group exhibitions. She has previously run Mamapalooza events in Sydney generating more creativity for mothers in the arts.

Vee, unconventional by nature, portrays the unusual importance of domesticity in her paintings. Having juggled a busy life of going to work, mothering and housework, her ideas on canvas portray a snapshot of ordinary life, but with an absurd tone. There is often a political statement, subtle or wildly over the top. Kitchen sinks, washing baskets, mops, brooms and vacuum cleaners, all taking the limelight and delighting the eye with humour, colour and imagination. But underlying the playful subject matter could be a controversial discourse about housework, the division of labour, and women’s continuing efforts to achieve equality.

“Housework is still overwhelmingly done by women even though many also work like their husbands, and most childcare is still women’s responsibility. The division of housework is politics at play in the home…Housework should be paid work, like all other jobs but, …”housework is considered trivial, playing second fiddle to “paid” work.” The National, 2014

Vee doesn’t see her paintings as being political. She says they are really about the object itself. She finds beauty in the actual object, the mop, the broom or the vacuum cleaner, but she does admit giving status to the object. Her elevation of household items to be seen as greater in themselves, than being taken for granted, is a metaphor for the status of housework, as well as status of women, housewives, and mothers.

Whatever you see in Vee’s work, whether it’s political or not, the images will have a lasting impact.
