MIGUEL CASTRO – Gregorio Enrico Miguel Garcia Castro
ACTOR, SINGER, VISUAL ARTIST
Miguel Castro was born in Lipa Batangas, Philippines. He is a film and TV actor and an in-house theater actor for GANTIMPALA THEATER FOUNDATION, one of the oldest, fully operating pioneering theater groups in Manila. Once sat as a board member, and has done Philippine Classics like KANSER-Noli Me Tangere, El Filibusterismo Ibong Adarna and other notable performances. Branching out, he has done musicals - FILIPINAS CIRCA for Tanghalang Pilipino CCP, GABRIELA and SAINT LOUIS LOVES DEM FILIPINOS for Dulaang UP, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show for Gantimpala. Active in the music scene, he is a semi regular performer at the AAWITAN KITA Live Concert Series in Makati. And has released an album of alternative love songs. His recordings include: “St. Louis loves dem Filipinos” selected songs, Rico J. Puno album of Christmas Songs and “Miguel Castro Sings” a album of Original Philippino Muisc. He also ventured in to writing. He has published a short story for gay anthology book “Ladlad” and adapted “Laro” from Arthur Schnitzler’s “La Ronde” for stage.
Fine Arts was his first choice graduating from high school. Miguel is the proprietor and designer of the company Castro design since 1993 manufacturing handmade, hand designed items, which are sold locally and exported into different countries. Miguel has done a one-man exhibit in the Philippines entitled BAL MASQUE in 2005. A multi media artworks collection of Venetian styled and designed masks, using various recycled materials. Recently he has explored working with paper and scalpel capturing emotions and directly translating them by sculpting on paper. Miguel recently spend several months in Sydney, Australia, creating more paper cuts. Since than he had major exhibitions showing his paper cuts, taking part in the BAGO (Bonafide Art Galleries Organization) Art Exhibit, ARTS CENTER Mega Mall, Manila, Philippines September 2008, followed by a one man exhibition at NINE GALLERY, Manila Philippines in November 2008. In December 2008 he had his own Christmas exhibition at the AUFERSTEHUNGS KIRCHE Berlin Friedrichshain in Berlin, Germany, in July 2009 he had a one man exhibit at the GALERIE 11 RUE & DEMI du Général Mangin, Nouméa, Nouvelle-Calédonie and in December 2009 he had is first expo at the TAP Gallery and will be back at TAP for Mardi Gras 2010 from the 22.2.- 7.3. He is scheduled to exhibit at ST VINCENT HOSPITAL ART SPACE, Sydney in October 2010.

International Women’s Day Mon 8th March “Women’s Eye on Peace” Exhibition and Opening Night Wednesday 10th March 6-9pm.
From 8th March – 13th March, Amnesty International NSW and International Women’s Development Agency will be hosting a photography exhibition entitled “Women’s Eye on Peace” to coincide with the celebration of International Women’s Day (Monday 8th of March).
International Women’s Day provides an annual opportunity to celebrate the fantastic contribution and achievements women have made around the world as well as inspiring even greater contributions by women in the future. The IWDA “Women’s Eye on Peace” photography exhibition reflects this by providing a showcase of 14 photographs taken by women sharing their perspectives around the world.
The photographs will be on display from Mon 8th March – Sun 13th March at TAP Gallery, (Level 1, 278 Palmer Street, Darlinghurst, NSW, 2010). We will be holding a special Opening Night event involving refreshments and guest speakers from Amnesty and IWDA. This event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the photos and hear from women who are playing a major role in activism regarding development and human rights related issues around the world.
